That 70's Show“That 70’s Show” has taught me a lot of things about the world, but one thing that really stood out to me was how much education has changed over the years.

For starters, the show takes place in the 1970s, a time when bell-bottom pants and shag carpeting were all the rage (the first time around). But it’s also a time when education was a lot different than it is today.

For example, in one episode, the gang is discussing their plans for the future, and it’s revealed that Eric is going to trade school to become a mechanic. Nowadays, trade school is seen as a less desirable option, but back in the 70s, it was a viable and respected path.

Another thing that’s different is the technology. In the show, the kids are still using slide rules and typewriters in their math and English classes. Can you imagine trying to do calculus or write a paper on a typewriter? It would be like trying to do brain surgery with a butter knife.

Technology has played a huge role in how we educate our children. In today’s world, we have access to a plethora of resources that were not available in the past. One of the best examples of this is the number of quality learning videos available on platforms like YouTube. These videos cover a wide range of subjects and can be a great supplement to traditional classroom learning.  Don’t trust YouTube videos for teaching your kids?  Check out the mention of 2cool4school below.

But perhaps the biggest difference is the way that teachers are depicted on the show. They’re all strict disciplinarians, who seem more interested in keeping order than actually teaching. And they’re always threatening detention and other punishments. Nowadays, teachers are seen as more nurturing and supportive, and there’s a greater emphasis on creating a positive learning environment.  Not to mention more people are homeschooling their kids than ever before!

Another great option for parents is the availability of complete online curriculums that are free. One such example is 2cool4school, which offers a full online curriculum that aligns with the common core curriculum. This platform offers a wide range of learning resources, including hundreds of human-vetted, age-appropriate learning videos from grades 1 through 8.  No need to worry about what some weirdo has posted on YouTube.

With 2cool4school, parents can create customized study plans for their kids by picking an entire grade, a subject, or even just a single topic. This makes it easy for parents to tailor the learning experience to the specific needs of their child.

With the shift to more homeschooling or remote learning models, these types of resources have become even more important. They offer a way for parents to ensure that their children are still getting a quality education while they’re away from school.

All in all, “That 70’s Show” has taught me a lot about how education has changed over the years. It’s a reminder that the way we educate our children is constantly evolving and that we should always be open to new ideas and approaches. And it’s also a reminder that bell-bottoms are never coming back, so we should probably just let that one go.
